Plywood People: Building a Brighter Future Through Social Change

Right Now panelist Jeff Shinabarger champions social change in Atlanta through the non-profit organization Plywood People. Plywood People supports community oriented innovations by implementing projects and educating entrepreneurs who seek new, long-lasting solutions to old problems. Current projects include Billboard Bags, which sells recycled items in order to provide jobs, skill training, mentorship, and English lessons for refugees in Atlanta who have fled conflict for freedom. Gift Card Giver is another program which collects unused gift cards to donate to those in need. Since inception, Jeff and Andre Shinabarger have collected and redistributed over $200,000 in gift cards. Then there’s “More or Less.” Jeff Shinabarger incites people to shed the excess and give more than they receive in his book “More or Less.” Shinabarger explores the notion of freedom through generosity and encourages readers to create their own social experiments to inspire change.

On August 6-7, join 600 entrepreneurs, artists, and activists in Atlanta at the Fox Theatre for Plywood Presents, Jeff’s annual gathering of problem solvers, entrepreneurs, artists, and activists who want to bring about social innovation. Visit Plywood People to learn more about these and other projects. Also check out Moreorlessbook.com to order the book and to read stories of regular people who succeeded in their own social experiments.
